Today, I am going to compare the "5 Cs" in teaching to my own personality. The "5 C's" are as follows:

1. Committed

2. Caring

3. Courageous

4. Conscious

5. Centered

Committed: I believe that I have a great strength in being committed. I was a foster/adoptive mom for Morgan County from 2017-2025. In that time, my husband and I have adopted ten children out of the system. The trauma that some children are dealt with is overwhelming.  Due to the trauma that kids have gone though, it can cause these kids to have behavioral issues. There were so many times that it would have been easy to give up, Not only did we choose to stay committed to these kids, but we also had to be committed to our biological children. I believe that this experience will help me to be a committed teacher to my future students.

Caring: I believe that I am a very caring individual. I try my best to be caring and compassionate to those around me. I think that teachers and good parents have a lot of similar attributes. I do my best to meet the needs of people that depend on me. Caring is not just being kind and gentle. Sometimes caring is firm and harsh. I have a teenage son that tends to do things that I do not agree with. I often times have to be somewhat strict and harsh with him. He may not understand what I am doing, but I am caring for him. I want him to make better decisions. If I did not love and care for him, then I would not try to pour into him.

Courageous: This is one that I may struggle with a bit. I do think that I am somewhat courageous. I am normally a very shy person. I don't feel that I am the most confident. I struggle to get outside of my comfort zone. I would like to improve on this and am very willing to try.

Conscious: I feel like I am a conscious person. I am aware of decisions that I make before acting. Sometimes as a parent, I may get upset at one of my kids. However, I make conscious decisions to respond appropriately.  I think teaching is similar to that. As you manage a classroom, you need to respond to children's behavior in a conscious manner.

Centered: I feel that I do show some characteristics of being centered. I try to be emotionally stable and aware of my reactions to people. I think that being centered can also mean being focused on the task at hand. I think that being a mother to thirteen children has helped me to improve in all of the "5 Cs."
